Sunrise Hits switches from national to London-only DAB service
Sunrise Hits has switched from national DAB broadcasting to a London-only service, marking a change to the station’s distribution less than a year after its launch.
The station debuted on 5th November 2025 as Sunrise Radio Group’s second national service, broadcasting across the UK on the Sound Digital multiplex. It was introduced as an easy-listening Asian music station, expanding the group’s offering beyond its flagship Sunrise Radio service.
However, current radio listings now show Sunrise Hits broadcasting on DAB+ in Greater London, rather than nationally. The station remains available online. The change leaves Sunrise Radio as the group’s national commercial Asian radio service, while its London portfolio comprises Sunrise Radio, Sunrise Retro and Sunrise Hits.
The move comes days after the latest RAJAR Q3/26 figures showed Lyca Radio overtaking Sunrise Radio to become London’s No.1 Asian commercial radio station for the first time. Lyca Radio recorded a weekly reach of 170,000, compared with Sunrise Radio’s 158,000. The result ended Sunrise Radio’s 36-year run at the top of the London market.

While Sunrise Radio has not publicly confirmed the reason for the distribution change, the move places greater emphasis on its London station portfolio at a time of increased competition in the capital.
