Mouni Roy addresses rumours of her being gay: “My girlfriends are the best”

Mouni Roy has addressed long‑running speculation about her personal life, speaking candidly about the rumours that followed her separation and the friendships that helped her through a difficult period.

After her marriage ended, the actor found herself linked to close friend and fellow actor Disha Patani, with the pair’s frequent appearances on each other’s Instagram feeds fuelling online chatter. Their holidays, gym sessions and public outings often drew attention, leading to assumptions about the nature of their relationship.

In a conversation with Monika Sharma on her YouTube channel, Mouni was asked about the biggest rumour she had ever heard about herself in the industry. She didn’t hesitate before responding: “Oh, that I am gay.” She went on to reflect on how such speculation surfaced at a time when she was already navigating emotional upheaval. “I feel very lucky that I have always had friends and family who have stood by me like a rock,” she said, noting that support from those closest to her made the period more bearable.

Mouni spoke warmly about the women in her life who helped her stay grounded. “I have always had great girlfriends to support me. They have been there through my good, bad and ugly phases. It is very important to have women like that in your life — the ones who uplift you. My girlfriends are the best,” she shared. She also emphasised the importance of independence, adding, “Girls today should focus on financial and emotional stability. You have to be emotionally and financially independent.”

Reflecting on her own experiences, she described her journey with characteristic honesty. “My life has been a roller‑coaster ride. There have been struggles, good days, bad days. Sometimes you are very happy and at other times very sad. It is all part and parcel of life.”

While the rumours surrounding her friendship with Disha Patani continue to circulate online, Mouni’s comments make clear that she sees her close female friendships as a source of strength rather than controversy.
