ZEE Europe’s Parul Goel affirms hybrid future for linear and digital broadcasting

Parul Goel, Territory Head of ZEE Europe, has long been regarded as one of the most forthright voices in the Asian media landscape. A seasoned executive with a reputation for driving industry‑first initiatives, Goel has frequently challenged convention while steering strategic growth for the network.

In an exclusive podcast interview with Lyca Xtra, Goel spoke to its Chief Executive (Lyca Radio Network), Raj Baddhan, about the mounting challenges faced by linear Asian television channels amid the rapid expansion of OTT platforms. The discussion explored how shifting audience behaviour is reshaping the broadcasting environment and compelling traditional networks to rethink their long‑term strategies.

When asked whether ZEE intended to follow other broadcasters in phasing out linear services in favour of a digital‑only model, Goel dismissed the notion of a singular approach. “I’ll say both will co‑exist. It will be a hybrid. We cannot live with one. Because audiences have diversified themselves so much. We can’t be only on one platform. We can’t be like recently in the last two years, we have launched FAST channels.”

Across the forty‑minute conversation, Goel also outlined ZEE’s plans to expand its FAST channel portfolio and addressed the ongoing challenges associated with audience measurement in the UK, particularly in relation to BARB. He further reflected on ZEE’s renewed strength in the Indian market and the continued loyalty of UK viewers, who remain engaged with the network’s programming despite the absence of locally produced shows.

The interview offered a rare, candid insight into ZEE’s evolving strategy and the broader shifts shaping the future of South Asian broadcasting in Europe.

The interview is now streaming on Lyca Xtra, available on Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, Apple, Google, PodBean and others.
