Tanishk Bagchi-YRF ‘Saiyaara’ royalty row: Composer claims unpaid Rs.8 lakh, studio denies any dues
Tanishk Bagchi, the composer of ‘Saiyaara’, has accused Yash Raj Films of withholding royalty payments for the track, claiming he is still owed Rs.8 lakh. In a detailed Instagram post, Bagchi said he had “given everything” to the song but had “yet to receive Rs 8 lakh in royalties”. He added that the small amount he was initially paid had gone entirely into live sessions and mixes, leaving him with “peanuts” for a track that went on to become a major hit.
Bagchi wrote that he was not seeking sympathy, but wanted to highlight what he described as unfair payment practices in the industry. His post quickly gained traction, prompting widespread discussion about composer compensation and royalty structures in mainstream film music.
A YRF spokesperson said, “Saiyaara title track was a beautiful collaboration between three composers (Tanishk Bagchi along with Faheem Abdullah and Arslan Nizami). We are deeply thankful for their brilliance in creating a timeless song that has touched a million hearts. Royalties for the title track have been shared and will continue to be shared by YRF equally between all three composers as contractually agreed by all, including Tanishk. YRF has paid every collaborator their due, as per contract, all within mutually agreed terms & time.”
