Review: ‘Hunkkaar’ (JioHotstar)
‘Hunkkaar: The Roar’ is one of JioHotstar’s strongest drama offerings this year. Led by a confident performance from Aneet Padda, the six-episode series follows a young woman’s fight for justice after she accuses a powerful spiritual leader of abuse. The show also stars Fatima Sana Shaikh, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub and Raghubir Yadav.
Rather than relying on sensationalism, ‘Hunkkaar’ focuses on the emotional, legal and social consequences of speaking out against power. The writing keeps the narrative grounded, while the courtroom and investigation-led storytelling maintains momentum across the six episodes.
Aneet Padda delivers a mature and convincing performance as Meenu Rawat, while Fatima Sana Shaikh brings authority and restraint to her role as ACP Jasleen Singh Soin. The standout, however, is Raghubir Yadav, whose portrayal of Baapji adds considerable weight to the series.
Directors Nitya Mehra and Karan D. Kapadia handle the subject matter with sensitivity, ensuring the story remains focused on its central theme of courage and accountability.
