Sky & SES renew partnership as millions continue to watch using Sky Q
Sky has renewed its long-standing satellite partnership with SES, securing the continued delivery of Sky Q and satellite television services to millions of homes across the UK and Ireland well into the next decade.
The multi-year direct-to-home (DTH) agreement will see Sky continue using SES satellite capacity at the 28.2 degrees East orbital position, the cornerstone of its satellite TV platform serving customers across the region.
The renewal extends a relationship that began in 1988 and underscores the ongoing importance of satellite distribution, particularly for Sky Q households, despite the broadcaster’s growing investment in internet-based services such as Sky Stream and Sky Glass.
Nick Herm, Group Chief Operating Officer at Sky, said the agreement ensures the company can continue meeting the expectations of its satellite customer base.
“As we give customers more choice in how they access Sky, satellite continues to play an important role in how we deliver our services to customers across the UK and Ireland,” said Herm. “This agreement with SES provides the reliability, reach and service quality we need to continue delivering the viewing experience our satellite customers expect.”
The deal provides continuity for Sky’s satellite operations at a time when the company is pursuing a multi-platform strategy, offering customers a choice between traditional satellite reception through Sky Q and streaming-based alternatives.

For SES, the agreement reinforces the continuing value of satellite infrastructure for major broadcasters seeking wide-scale coverage and resilient content delivery.
Deepak Mathur, President of Media at SES, said the renewal highlights broadcasters’ confidence in satellite technology.
“Sky has been a valued partner of SES for nearly four decades, and this agreement marks another important milestone in our relationship while reinforcing our commitment to the UK and Ireland market,” said Mathur.
“This significant multi-year renewal demonstrates the confidence that leading broadcasters continue to place in satellite. It remains an effective way to deliver premium content at scale, providing the reach, reliability and resilience broadcasters depend on while delivering exceptional viewing experiences to millions of households.”
