Namit Malhotra to commence work on ‘Brahmastra 2’ after ‘Ramayana’

Namit Malhotra has confirmed that work on ‘Brahmāstra 2’, directed by Ayan Mukerji, will begin as soon as he completes his current commitments on ‘Ramayana’. Both films feature Ranbir Kapoor in central roles, placing him at the forefront of two of the industry’s most ambitious upcoming projects.

Early promotion for ‘Ramayana’ is already under way, with Malhotra and actor Yash recently appearing at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas. According to a post by The Climax India on X, Malhotra stated during the event that he intends to “take the Astraverse forward with ‘Brahmāstra 2’” once work on ‘Ramayana’ concludes.

The first instalment, ‘Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva’, released in 2022, introduced audiences to a large‑scale fantasy universe inspired by Indian mythology. The film followed Shiva, played by Ranbir Kapoor, as he discovered his connection to an ancient astral weapon and a hidden world of guardians tasked with protecting powerful artefacts. While the film received a mixed critical response, it was widely noted for its visual ambition and for establishing the foundations of what Mukerji termed the Astraverse, a planned trilogy exploring the origins and destinies of characters linked to these mythical energies.

‘Brahmāstra 2’ is expected to expand this universe considerably, delving deeper into the mythology hinted at in the first film and exploring the backstories of key figures. Mukerji has previously suggested that the second chapter will adopt a darker, more intense tone, with a broader narrative scope and more complex character arcs.
