Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayana’ lands historic distribution deal with Dharma Productions
Dharma Productions has secured the India theatrical distribution rights for Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming epic ‘Ramayana’, in what industry reporting identifies as one of the biggest distribution agreements ever concluded in Indian cinema.
The deal, valued at approximately Rs. 350 crore, places the project at the top end of the market and reflects the scale of the multi‑part franchise being mounted by producer Namit Malhotra.
The ambition surrounding ‘Ramayana’ is underscored by its substantial production budget, estimated to be in the region of Rs. 4,000 crore. Early negotiations for the distribution rights were believed to have opened at significantly higher figures, signalling the commercial expectations attached to the film’s release.

Industry commentary has further reinforced the scale of the agreement. As one source told Bollywood Hungama: “It’s the biggest theatrical distribution deal of all time. The Rs. 350 crores fetched by Namit Malhotra’s Ramayana is higher than the previous best, King, by a margin of Rs. 100 crores. The expectations are sky high, and the entire film fraternity is bullish on the prospects of Ramayana produced by Namit Malhotra.”
