Deepika Padukone expected to lead ‘Brahmastra 2’ as Amrita

Deepika Padukone is expected to take on a full‑fledged role in ‘Brahmastra 2: Dev’, with industry reporting consistently indicating that her casting is locked in principle. Deepika appeared briefly in ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ as Amrita, mother of Shiva, and director Ayan Mukerji has written the character as central to the second chapter of the Astraverse.

Trade sources say Deepika has been part of the sequel’s planning since the first film, with only the formal announcement pending. Current updates reiterate that she will headline the film alongside Ranbir Kapoor, who plays both Shiva and Dev in the upcoming instalment.

The project remains in active development, with scripting and prep underway and production expected to begin in April 2027 once Ranbir completes his commitments on ‘Ramayana Part 2’. Deepika’s expanded role is positioned as a key narrative driver for the sequel, which will explore the origins and mythology surrounding Amrita and Dev.
