Banjaare: The Haryanvi duo taking South Asian music global with ‘Barsaat’

In an era where regional music is finding unprecedented global audiences, few success stories are as compelling as Banjaare’s.

The emerging Indian duo are rapidly establishing themselves as one of the most exciting new voices in South Asian music, fusing contemporary pop production with the rich cultural heritage of Haryana to create a sound that resonates far beyond linguistic and geographical boundaries.

Their latest release, “Barsaat” (“Rainy Season”), marks another significant step in their artistic journey. Built around themes of longing, nostalgia and human connection, the track showcases the duo’s ability to balance emotional storytelling with polished, modern production. Sung entirely in Haryanvi, an Indo-Aryan language predominantly spoken in northern India, “Barsaat” demonstrates how regional expression can speak to universal emotions.

Banjaare’s growing profile follows the remarkable success of their breakout single ‘Bairan’, a track that became one of the most talked-about South Asian releases of recent years. Despite being performed in ‘Haryanvi’, ‘Bairan’ transcended language barriers and developed a global audience, reaching No.1 on Spotify India and breaking into Spotify’s Global Top 35. The song ultimately peaked at No. 29 worldwide, while also topping multiple YouTube Music charts.

The track’s success extended well beyond streaming platforms. Across Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, ‘Bairan’ generated more than eight million combined views, helping introduce Banjaare’s distinctive sound to a new generation of digital-first music fans. The momentum translated into sustained audience growth, with the duo now attracting more than 13 million monthly listeners on Spotify and cultivating a social media community of over 218,000 followers on Instagram.

What makes Banjaare particularly noteworthy is their ability to modernise regional influences without diluting their identity. While contemporary pop forms the foundation of their sound, the duo’s music remains deeply connected to the language, storytelling traditions and emotional authenticity of Haryana. That combination has positioned them at the forefront of a broader movement that is seeing South Asian artists gain increasing recognition on the global stage.

As international audiences continue to embrace music beyond traditional language boundaries, artists like Banjaare are helping redefine what global pop can sound like. Their success illustrates that authenticity, compelling songwriting and emotional resonance can connect with listeners regardless of where they come from or what language they speak.

With “Barsaat”, Banjaare build on the momentum of Bairan while further refining the sound that has made them one of India’s most promising emerging acts. If their recent trajectory is any indication, the duo’s influence within the global South Asian music landscape looks set to grow even further in the months ahead.

“Barsaat” is available now on major streaming platforms and on YouTube.
