Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ‘Daayra’ opens-up slow at box office

Meghna Gulzar’s crime thriller ‘Daayra’, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran, has opened to a muted response at the Indian box office, collecting an estimated Rs. 0.90 crore net on its first day. The film recorded occupancy of around 11-12 per cent across its opening-day shows, signalling a slow start for the theatrical release.

Despite generating interest through its pairing, the film has struggled to convert awareness into footfalls on opening day. Trade estimates place the worldwide gross at approximately Rs. 1.08 crore.

The opening is lower than ‘The Buckingham Murders’, which had debuted above the Rs. 1 crore mark, making ‘Daayra’ one of the weakest starts of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s career. Weekend momentum will now be crucial if the film is to improve its box-office trajectory.
