JioStar accuses ZEE of unauthorised broadcast of films
Reliance‑led JioStar has accused ZEE Entertainment of broadcasting a slate of films without the rights to do so, escalating an already tense relationship between the two media groups. The company has taken the matter to a mediation panel, alleging repeated misuse of titles from its licensed catalogue.
JioStar alleges that ZEE telecast 12 distinct films around 20 times, including several major Bollywood blockbusters featuring leading actors such as Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan. The company claims these broadcasts took place despite the rights being held by the Reliance‑Disney venture at the time, according to Reuters.
The dispute adds another layer to the ongoing friction between the two sides. They are already locked in a $1 billion arbitration in London over a collapsed cricket licensing deal in 2024, a case that has significantly strained commercial ties.

ZEE has been directed to appear before the mediation committee, where both parties will present their positions. The outcome will determine whether the matter can be resolved through negotiation or progresses into a more extensive legal process.
For now, the allegations mark a fresh flashpoint in the increasingly competitive and closely scrutinised Indian broadcasting sector.
