Vashu Bhagnani criticises use of ‘Biwi No. 1’ songs in ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’

Producer Vashu Bhagnani has publicly expressed his anger over the use of songs from his 1999 film ‘Biwi No. 1’ in the upcoming ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’, stating that the makers proceeded without his permission and that the matter remains legally unresolved.

Bhagnani, who owns the rights to the original soundtrack, said the team behind the new film had “taken the songs and visuals without my consent,” adding that he had not authorised any reuse. In a video statement, he criticised the filmmakers for suggesting the dispute had been settled, saying: “They are lying openly. No one has spoken to me, and nothing has been sorted.”

He further warned that circulating or releasing the disputed material could amount to contempt of court, noting that the issue is currently sub judice. Bhagnani emphasised that the disagreement is not merely financial, describing it as a matter of professional ethics. “This is not about money. It is about respect and doing things the right way,” he said.

The producer also expressed disappointment with director David Dhawan, with whom he has shared a long working relationship. Bhagnani said he expected greater transparency from the team, adding: “I have always respected David ji, but this is not how things should be done.”

Despite claims from the film’s producers that the situation has been resolved, Bhagnani maintains that no agreement has been reached and that he has not granted any rights for the songs’ use.

The dispute continues as the film approaches release, raising questions about whether the contested tracks will remain part of the final cut.
