Taapsee Pannu on success of ‘Gandhari’ on Netflix: “It has been a very very overwhelming feeling”

Taapsee Pannu-starrer ‘Gandhari’ has debuted at No.3 on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Movies chart in its opening week.

Written and produced by Kanika Dhillon, the action-thriller was released globally on 3 September 2026. The film follows a mother who becomes involved with a criminal syndicate while searching for her missing child.

According to Netflix’s viewing figures, ‘Gandhari’ recorded 5.9 million views and 11.5 million viewing hours in its first week.

Taapsee Pannu said, “It has been a very very overwhelming feeling. I knew we had made a film that will connect with people but I honestly didn’t anticipated this scale and magnitude of love from across the world. Seeing the film trend in so many countries who probably have no understanding of our language or culture is validating that if story works it crosses borders and is embraced all over the world. It has given me success in countries who probably have never seen a Hindi film release in their theatres ever.”

‘Gandhari’ recorded a stronger opening in terms of views than several other major Hindi releases on the chart. ‘Alpha’, in its second week, registered 5.2 million views and 12.2 million viewing hours, while ‘Dhamaal 4’ debuted at number five with 2.6 million views and 6.1 million viewing hours.

The performance marks another Netflix collaboration between Kanika Dhillon and Taapsee Pannu, following ‘Haseen Dillruba’ and ‘Phir Aayi Hasseen Dilruba’. Dhillon has also worked with Netflix on ‘Do Patti’.

Among the other Hindi films to feature prominently on Netflix’s 2026 charts are ‘Toaster’, with 4.4 million views and 9.2 million viewing hours; ‘Kartavya’, with 4.2 million views and 7.7 million viewing hours; ‘Maa Behen’, with 4.4 million views and 9.3 million viewing hours; and ‘Ikka’, with 4.4 million views and 10.3 million viewing hours.
