Peter Rice to replace Bela Bajaria as Chief Content Officer at Netflix
Netflix has announced the departure of Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria after nearly 10 years with the streaming platform.
Former Disney executive Peter Rice will succeed Bajaria, taking up the role on 26th October 2026. He will oversee Netflix’s global content strategy across films, scripted and unscripted series, and live events.
Bajaria joined Netflix in 2016 and became Chief Content Officer in January 2023. During her tenure, the company expanded its international programming, unscripted content, live events and sports offerings.
Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said: “I want to thank Bela for a decade of dedication, innovation, creativity and leadership. She led enormous changes at Netflix. She helped broaden our content offering to include the large-scale expansion of unscripted programming and the launches of live events and sports, in addition to crafting and running a world class, global slate of films and series. I’m incredibly grateful for everything she’s done to help Netflix entertain the world.”
Rice previously served as chairman of Walt Disney Television and chairman of general entertainment at The Walt Disney Company. His credits include overseeing major television networks and streaming service Hulu.

Rice said: “Netflix has fundamentally changed the way stories are made, shared and experienced around the world. They’ve shown again and again that they’re willing to take chances on distinctive voices and fresh ideas, and I’m excited to work with the team to help bring even more great stories to members everywhere.”
The leadership change follows Netflix’s announcement of plans to cut approximately 1,000 jobs, representing around 6% of its workforce.
