ZEE5 Global premieres Taapsee Pannu’s courtroom drama ‘Assi’
Taapsee Pannu’s courtroom drama ‘Assi’ has been released on ZEE5 Global, following a theatrical run that prompted considerable discussion.
The film is directed by Anubhav Sinha and features an ensemble cast including Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Kani Kusruti, Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak and Seema Pahwa.
‘Assi’ follows a lawyer, played by Pannu, who takes on a rape case that exposes both the brutality of the crime and the systemic indifference surrounding it. The film highlights the scale of sexual violence — at one point referencing nearly 80 reported cases in a single day — and traces the ordeal faced by a survivor and her partner as they confront trauma, stigma and a slow-moving legal system. The narrative extends beyond the courtroom to examine the emotional and social consequences often overlooked.
