Why has Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Satluj’ been removed from ZEE5 after just two days?

ZEE5 has withdrawn the Punjabi film ‘Satluj’ from its Indian platform just two days after its premiere, marking an unusually swift removal for a major digital release.

The film, which debuted on 3rd July 2026, became inaccessible to Indian viewers by 5th July, with the title displaying a notice that it was unavailable “until further notice.”

In a detailed public statement, ZEE5 said, “Satluj has been paused in India due to current developments. We are exploring legal avenues to bring the film back. We continue to support the film and its creative vision. We remain committed to telling stories that matter and will share further updates once the review process is complete.”

The platform has not specified the precise reason for the withdrawal. However, reporting across multiple outlets indicates that the film’s subject, the life and disappearance of human‑rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, prompted immediate external objections following its release. These objections, according to industry sources, led ZEE5 to initiate a legal and compliance review to assess its obligations and potential exposure.

‘Satluj’ continues to remain available in certain international regions, but its Indian reinstatement will depend on the outcome of the platform’s ongoing consultations. ZEE5 has emphasised that it is actively seeking a resolution that would allow the film to return to domestic viewers.
