Paramount moves closer to Warner Bros merger after settlement

Paramount Skydance has removed a major obstacle to its proposed $110 billion merger with Warner Bros Discovery after reaching a settlement with California and 11 other US states that had sought to block the deal.

The agreement clears a significant regulatory hurdle for the transaction, which will create one of the world’s largest media groups spanning film, television, streaming and news.

Under the settlement, Paramount Skydance has committed to increasing domestic film production, maintaining minimum annual theatrical release targets and establishing editorial independence boards for CBS and CNN.

The lawsuit, led by California and backed by 11 other states, argued that the merger would reduce competition across the US media sector. With the litigation now resolved, the companies are a step closer to closing one of the most consequential consolidation deals in the global entertainment business.
