Jimmy Shergill & Siddhant Chaturvedi board Vikas Bahl’s film on UK Punjabi music movement
Jimmy Shergill, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Mona Singh and Alizeh Agnihotri have been cast in filmmaker Vikas Bahl’s next untitled feature, a coming-of-age drama set against the rise of the UK Punjabi music movement in the early 1990s.
The film will explore a defining period when Punjabi music emerged from garages, pirate radio stations, backrooms and underground gigs across Britain, helping a generation of British Asians find its voice through music and culture.
According to the makers, the project centres on themes of music, identity, family, friendship and belonging, set during a time when Punjabi dhol fused with contemporary British sounds to create a movement that broke into the mainstream.
