Bobby Deol’s ‘Bandar’ release shifted to June 2026

Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film ‘Bandar’, starring Bobby Deol, will now be released in June 2026, following a shift from its original May date.

Anurag Kashyap’s next directorial venture, ‘Bandar’, has secured a new theatrical release date, with the film now scheduled to arrive in cinemas in June 2026, having been moved from its earlier slot of 22nd May. The decision to postpone the release was made to avoid a crowded box‑office window, as the original date would have placed the film in direct competition with ‘Chand Mera Dil’ and ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’. However, the revised date now positions ‘Bandar’ head‑to‑head with Yash’s highly anticipated ‘Toxic’, setting the stage for a major box‑office clash.

The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it attracted considerable attention for its intense narrative and bold thematic approach. Written by Sudip Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee, the story centres on Samar, a once‑celebrated television star whose life unravels after he is accused of rape by his former girlfriend. The accusation leads to his judicial custody, forcing him into a harrowing confrontation with his past, his public image, and the fragility of fame.

Bobby Deol takes on the lead role of Samar, continuing his recent streak of darker, more layered performances. His portrayal is expected to be one of the film’s defining strengths, particularly given his acclaimed work in recent years. The film also features a strong supporting cast, contributing to what is shaping up to be one of the more significant dramatic releases of 2026.
