Bobby Deol’s ‘Bandar’ release put on hold

Bobby Deol’s film ‘Bandar’ has hit an unexpected pause, with its release programming temporarily put on hold amid a dispute between the producers and major multiplex chains. The decision follows what the makers describe as “unfair showcasing” in comparison with competing releases, prompting them to halt the film’s rollout until the issue is resolved.

According to industry reports, the team behind ‘Bandar’ raised concerns that national chains were allocating disproportionately fewer screens to the film, despite strong anticipation surrounding Bobby Deol’s performance. In response, the producers instructed exhibitors to freeze programming, a move described as necessary to ensure what they called “fair and equitable screen distribution”.

Sources close to the production say the conflict intensified after rival titles, including ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’ and ‘Peddi’, were reportedly given priority in prime slots. One insider noted that the makers of ‘Bandar’ felt the allocation was “skewed to the point of undermining the film’s visibility”, leading to the firm stance taken by the studio.

Zee Studios, which is backing the project, is said to be in active discussions with multiplex chains to resolve the matter. While no new release plan has been announced, the team has clarified that the film itself is not cancelled — only its showcasing has been paused until negotiations conclude.
