Sidhant Gupta steps in for Farhan Akhtar in Aamir Khan-Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Lalkaara’
Ashutosh Gowariker’s upcoming drama ‘Lalkaara’ has undergone a key casting change, with Sidhant Gupta replacing Farhan Akhtar in one of the film’s principal roles. The project, headlined by Aamir Khan, is being mounted as a large‑scale period sports drama with cricket at its core.
Akhtar, who was initially signed to play one of Khan’s close associates in the narrative, has stepped away from the acting role due to scheduling conflicts. His commitment to Neeraj Pandey’s RD Burman biopic, which requires extensive musical preparation and a long shoot — made it impossible to accommodate ‘Lalkaara’s’ demanding cricket training and multi‑month schedule. Akhtar remains attached to the film as producer through Excel Entertainment.
Gupta, who has gained industry traction following his breakout performance in ‘Jubilee’, has now been finalised for the part. His onboarding ensures the film’s timeline remains unaffected, with principal photography scheduled to begin 1 October in Mumbai.
