Akshay Kumar to make special appearance in Neeraj Pandey’s RD Burman biopic

Neeraj Pandey’s upcoming RD Burman biopic is beginning to take shape, with industry sources confirming that Akshay Kumar will feature in the film in a special appearance. The project, backed by Friday Filmworks, is being positioned as a large‑scale musical biographical drama centred on the life and legacy of RD Burman.

The film stars Farhan Akhtar as the legendary composer, marking his return to a music‑driven role. Pandey, who has previously collaborated with Kumar on ‘Special 26’, ‘Baby’ and ‘A Wednesday’, is said to have narrated a brief but impactful part to the actor, which he agreed to take on due to their long‑standing rapport.

Kumar’s involvement is not as a co‑lead; the film remains anchored around Akhtar’s portrayal of Burman. However, his appearance is expected to add star value and broaden the film’s commercial reach when it enters its promotional phase.

The biopic is currently in pre‑production, with casting and music development underway. Pandey is aiming for an authentic, research‑driven narrative that traces Burman’s creative evolution, collaborations and cultural impact across decades.
