SGPC legal notice sparks Gurbani telecast dispute with GTC Punjabi
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has initiated legal proceedings against GTC Punjabi, alleging unauthorised telecast of Gurbani from the Golden Temple. The dispute centres on broadcast rights, which SGPC maintains rest exclusively with the committee and its authorised partners.
On 6th August, GTC Punjabi began relaying Gurbani live from Sri Darbar Sahib at 03:15, sourcing the feed from SGPC’s official YouTube channel. SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami confirmed that a legal notice had been served, stating that only PTC Punjabi holds authorised telecast rights. The committee argued that rebroadcasting the YouTube stream without permission constituted a breach of its rights.
In response, GTC Network founder and managing director Dr Rabindra Narayan issued what he termed a “humble clarification”. He said SGPC had been informed in advance and that the relay was intended to widen access for devotees worldwide. “With folded hands, I humbly urge the SGPC not to interrupt it on GTC as it was done with an intention for wider reach of the Gurbani to devotees all over the globe,” he wrote.

The matter remains unresolved, with SGPC pursuing legal remedies and GTC stating it will file a formal reply once the notice is received. At issue is whether SGPC’s open digital feed can legally be rebroadcast by third‑party channels, a question that could set precedent for how religious content is shared across platforms.
