Peterborough community station Salaam Radio fined £400 by Ofcom
Salaam Radio, the community radio station serving Peterborough, has been fined £400 by Ofcom after the regulator found multiple failures to meet its Key Commitments during routine monitoring.
Ofcom requested full 24‑hour recordings for the week of 10 to 16 June 2024 as part of its ongoing oversight, following a previous Breach Decision issued in October 2023. After reviewing the material, Ofcom concluded that Salaam Radio was not meeting several of its obligations, including those relating to its character of service, speech content, original output and social gain.
The regulator noted that, although the station’s licence was amended on 24 April 2025—removing the requirement to meet specific speech and original output quotas—the June 2024 broadcasts would still likely have breached Licence Conditions 2(1) and 2(4) under the revised commitments. These relate to the station’s social‑gain responsibilities and the overall character of service, with the lack of original output contributing to the failings.

In line with its Penalty Guidelines, Ofcom determined that a £400 fine was appropriate and proportionate. The regulator added that the penalty would have been higher had Salaam Radio not taken additional steps to improve compliance since the 2024 Breach Decision.
