Ofcom opens RSL window early to meet Ramadan 2027 broadcast demand
Ofcom has opened a new application window for Restricted Service Licence (RSL) operators planning short‑term radio broadcasts between Thursday 4 February and Tuesday 16 March 2027, a period that will coincide with Ramadan. The regulator expects a high volume of submissions, with many community broadcasters traditionally seeking temporary licences to serve local Muslim audiences during the holy month.
The window will remain open until 17:00 on Friday 7 August 2026, giving applicants a defined period to prepare and submit proposals. Ofcom has reminded prospective operators to follow the criteria set out in its published RSL notes of guidance and to use the current version of the application form available on its website. The regulator has also reiterated that the application fee should only be paid at the point of submission.
