Five reasons why ‘Satluj’ was removed from ZEE5
‘Satluj’, the Punjabi political drama featuring Diljit Dosanjh in a central role, has become the focus of a major regulatory dispute after its sudden removal from ZEE5. The film, which tackles themes of identity, regional tension and state power, was taken down within 48 hours of release following intervention from the Indian government. Authorities have since confirmed that they are examining whether ZEE5 breached certification and compliance rules by streaming the film in an uncertified form, triggering one of the most high‑profile OTT controversies of the year.
Government directive – The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting ordered ZEE5 to take down ‘Satluj’ under Section 69A of the IT Act, citing national security concerns.
Uncertified release – The film was streamed without a CBFC certificate, despite the Board reportedly recommending 127 cuts before clearance.
Security concerns – Officials flagged alleged pro‑Khalistan content, warning it could inflame sensitivities in Punjab.
