Eros confirm return with sequels to ‘Rangeela’ & ‘Tere Naam’
Eros International is moving ahead with sequels to two of its most recognisable Hindi‑film titles, ‘Rangeela’ and ‘Tere Naam’, as part of a wider expansion of its catalogue into new franchise stories. The announcement was made during London Tech Week, where the company unveiled its multi‑tiered content strategy under the banners Eros Universe, Eros Brahmand and Eros Remastered.
Under the Eros Universe slate, six films are being developed into new instalments featuring fresh characters and storylines. These include ‘Tanu Weds Manu – The Next Chapter’, ‘Phobia’, ‘English Vinglish’, ‘Desi Boyz’, ‘Rangeela’ and ‘Tere Naam’. The company confirmed that these projects will not continue with the original casts, meaning Salman Khan is unlikely to return as Radhe in a spiritual sequel to ‘Tere Naam’, and Aamir Khan and Urmila Matondkar are not expected to reprise their roles in a follow‑up to ‘Rangeela’.
‘Rangeela’, directed by Ram Gopal Varma and released in 1995, became one of the decade’s defining musical hits and played a major role in establishing Urmila Matondkar as a leading star. ‘Tere Naam’, directed by the late Satish Kaushik and released in 2003, remains widely regarded as one of Salman Khan’s strongest performances. Both films continue to hold cultural significance, which has contributed to interest in how their new iterations will be reimagined.

While Eros has not yet revealed creative details about the new versions, the company has positioned the initiative as an effort to build contemporary stories inspired by the worlds of these well‑known films. Commenting on the broader slate, Eros founder and chairman Kishore Lulla said the company aims to “unite mythology‑inspired stories, beloved film properties and classic cinema under a single creative vision,” signalling an ambition to expand familiar titles into multi‑format storytelling.
The sequels form part of a larger push that also includes a mythology‑based cinematic universe and a restoration programme for classic films. With production timelines yet to be announced for the ‘Rangeela’ and ‘Tere Naam’ follow‑ups, the projects remain in early development, but the confirmation alone has already generated considerable curiosity among fans of the originals.
