Box Office: ‘Kantara Chapter 1’ opens up well in India

‘Kantara Chapter 1’ has opened well at the Indian box office, with a good performance in its Hindi, Kannada, and Telugu versions. Although advance bookings were slow in the initial days, a surge in last-minute sales, boosted by the national holiday, has helped the film secure a promising start.

In the Hindi market, where a Rs. 20 crore nett day seemed unlikely just days ago, the film now appears on track to reach that milestone. The momentum is expected to build further through the day.

Unlike blockbuster franchises such as ‘Baahubali’, ‘KGF’, and ‘Pushpa’, the original ‘Kantara’ found acclaim largely within specific communities, which may explain the relatively subdued craze in the Hindi belt. The late release of the trailer also impacted pre-release buzz.

Still, early audience response and strong regional support suggest potential for growth, especially if word-of-mouth holds. The film’s performance in South India is steady, though not massive, with the Kannada and Telugu versions receiving positive feedback.
