Sky to axe 600 jobs in the UK
Media giant Sky has announced plans to cut approximately 600 jobs across its UK operations, primarily affecting its technology teams in Osterley, Leeds, and Livingston. The move comes as part of a wider reorganisation involving around 900 roles, with the company launching a formal consultation process.
The job reductions follow Sky’s strategic pivot from developing new platforms, such as Sky Glass and Sky Stream, to focusing on optimising its existing services. A spokesperson for Sky stated that the changes are not linked to cost-cutting or individual performance, but rather a shift toward digital-first service delivery and streamlined operations.
Owned by Comcast, Sky has undergone significant transformation in recent years, including the closure of call centres and the phasing out of satellite dish installations. Since 2023, the company has reportedly cut around 3,000 roles as it adapts to changing consumer habits and the rise of broadband-based TV subscriptions.
