Sky reaches terms to acquire ITV’s broadcast division in £1.6bn deal
Comcast‑owned Sky has reached terms to acquire ITV’s broadcast and streaming division, marking one of the most significant structural shifts in the UK television market in more than a decade. The agreement, understood to be valued at around £1.6 billion, covers ITV’s Media & Entertainment business, including its linear channels and the ‘ITVX’ streaming platform.
The deal is now being finalised by legal teams, with completion subject to regulatory scrutiny from the Competition and Markets Authority, Ofcom, and final sign‑off from the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. ITV Studios is not included in the transaction. Instead, ITV Studios is expected to acquire Sky’s stake in Love Productions as part of the wider arrangement, allowing both companies to consolidate their core strengths.
For Sky, the acquisition represents a major expansion of its free‑to‑air and ad‑supported footprint, strengthening its position across both linear and digital distribution. For ITV, the sale separates its global production arm from its domestic broadcast operations, aligning with long‑term strategic discussions about unlocking value from its content business.
