Salman Khan alleges violation of personality rights over ‘Kala Hiran’
Salman Khan has initiated legal proceedings against the makers of the upcoming film ‘Kala Hiran: Battle for Legacy’, alleging an infringement of his personality and publicity rights. The actor’s petition, filed before the Delhi High Court, argues that the film’s promotional material unlawfully exploits his likeness and alludes to events associated with him without consent.
Khan’s legal team contends that the film’s posters and teasers feature a character styled to resemble the actor, including the use of a turquoise bracelet similar to one he is widely known for wearing. They further argue that the narrative appears to draw inspiration from the 1998 blackbuck case, in which Khan remains an accused, thereby risking prejudice to ongoing judicial proceedings.
According to the petition, the unauthorised use of imagery and thematic references “creates an unmistakable association with Salman Khan, thereby violating his personality rights and potentially harming his reputation.” The actor has sought an immediate stay on the film’s production, promotion, release and digital distribution.

Producer Amit Jani has rejected the allegations, insisting that the film is neither a biopic nor based on Khan. He maintains that Kala Hiran is a fictional work centred on the Bishnoi community’s efforts to protect wildlife. In a statement, he said, “The film is not connected to Salman Khan in any manner. It is inspired by public‑domain material relating to the Bishnoi community. The legal notice is unwarranted, and we remain committed to releasing the film as planned.”
The court has asked the filmmakers to respond to the petition, with further hearings expected in due course. The dispute has already generated significant public interest, given the high‑profile nature of the actor and the longstanding sensitivity surrounding the blackbuck case.
