AR Murugadoss opens up about challenges working with Salman Khan in ‘Sikandar’

Filmmaker AR Murugadoss has spoken candidly about the difficulties he faced while working with Salman Khan on ‘Sikandar’, a film that ultimately fell short of expectations at the box office. Despite grossing approximately Rs. 180 crore worldwide, the film failed to recoup its Rs. 200 crore budget, making it a commercial disappointment.

Discussing the experience, Murugadoss acknowledged the complexities of collaborating with a star of Salman Khan’s stature, describing the process as “not easy” due to the actor’s unique working style.

“We had to shoot entirely against green screens with heavy reliance on VFX. Even scenes set during the day had to be filmed at night, as Salman would only arrive on set around 8 PM. We’re used to starting early in the morning, but that’s simply not how things operate in his world,” he explained.

The director also highlighted the added strain of working with child actors under such conditions. “If a scene involved four children, we’d be filming at 2 AM, even if it was meant to depict them returning from school. By that hour, they’d be exhausted and often nodded off between takes,” he said.
