‘Sairaab’ actor Rohit Chandel arrested for allegedly stalking and harassing 16-year-old girl

Mumbai Police have arrested Rohit Chandel after a 16‑year‑old girl accused him of persistent harassment, stalking, and physical assault. The television actor, known for his role in ‘Sairaab’, was detained at his residence in Dahisar earlier this week.

According to the police complaint, the teenager stated that Chandel repeatedly contacted her using both his primary phone number and several alternate numbers, despite her objections. She further alleged that he confronted her near her home, verbally abused her, and struck her during an incident on 5 July.

A report by Tellychakar has claimed that the complainant is herself a television actress who is currently part of the cast of one of the industry’s biggest and most popular shows. Her identity has not been disclosed, in accordance with legal provisions protecting minors under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

When approached for comment, the actress declined to speak about the matter, stating: “Please keep me away from this. I am not going to give any quotes. You want to write, you can write, but I am not going to say anything. Let the judiciary system decide who is what.”

When asked whether she wished to address the seriousness of the allegations, she maintained her position, responding: “It might be, I don’t want to say anything.” She offered no further remarks, leaving the matter entirely to the legal process.

Investigators have booked Chandel under the POCSO Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions relating to stalking and voluntarily causing hurt. Officers have indicated that digital evidence — including call logs and message records — will form a central part of the inquiry.

Following his arrest, Chandel was produced before a special POCSO court, which remanded him to police custody while the investigation continues. His legal representatives have not issued a public statement, and the case is expected to develop further as authorities gather additional testimony.

It is not yet known what producers are planning with Chandel’s character in ‘Sairaab’.
