Priyanka Chopra Jonas shoots cameo in Mira Nair’s next ‘Amri’

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has filmed a cameo for Mira Nair’s forthcoming feature ‘Amri’, a biographical drama inspired by the life and artistic legacy of Hungarian‑Indian painter Amrita Sher‑Gil.

The project marks a rare collaboration between Chopra and Nair, with the actor completing her scenes during a brief shooting schedule in Amritsar. According to a source close to the production, Nair had approached Chopra last year for a specific appearance in the film. “The film aims to present the painter’s life across Hungary, India, and France. There was a specific part for which Mira had approached Priyanka last year, and she shot for it last week. The actor was in Hyderabad to finish some work on ‘Varanasi’. After that, she flew down to Amritsar and filmed for two days,” the source said.

‘Amri’ is understood to explore Sher‑Gil’s artistic evolution across continents, capturing the influences that shaped her distinctive style and her position as one of the most important modernist painters of the 20th century. Sher‑Gil’s work, known for its emotional depth and striking portrayal of women, continues to be celebrated globally.

Mira Nair has kept the finer details of the production tightly under wraps, including the principal cast and the nature of Chopra’s cameo. The film has been in development for some time, with Nair reportedly intent on preserving the authenticity and cultural richness of Sher‑Gil’s story.
