Priyanka Chopra Jonas announces ‘Ventilator 2’, reunites with Rajesh Mapuskar

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has announced ‘Ventilator 2’, a sequel to her 2016 Marathi film, with filmmaker Rajesh Mapuskar returning as writer and director.

The film will be produced under Chopra Jonas’ Purple Pebble Pictures banner, alongside Dr Madhu Chopra and Mapuskar, under the banners of Purple Pebble Pictures and Magij Pictures.

Announcing the project on Instagram, Priyanka reflected on the significance of the original film, which was among the early productions from her company.

She wrote: “10 years ago, with Purple Pebble Pictures, I decided I want to tell stories that mean something. Ventilator was one of those very important stories to us at the company. A decade later, we’re coming back to it, with so much more.”

The original ‘Ventilator’, released in 2016, revolved around the Kamerkar family, who gather at a hospital after an elderly relative is placed on a ventilator shortly before Ganesh Chaturthi.

The film featured an ensemble cast including Ashutosh Gowariker, Jitendra Joshi and Sulabha Arya. It went on to win three National Film Awards, including Best Director for Mapuskar, Best Editing and Best Sound Mixing.

‘Ventilator 2’ is scheduled for release in 2027. Details about its storyline and cast have yet to be announced.
