BizAsia Birthday Love: Five Romantic songs by Sonu Nigam
30th July marks the birthday of one of India’s most talented playback singers Sonu Nigam. The best thing about him as an artist is that he is willing to experiment with his vocals and style of songs. Be it a qawwali or a pop song Nigam has the ability to sing every type of genre without any difficulty. BizAsiaLive.Com will look back at the years 2000 to 2007 and remember some of the romantic songs sung by this artist.

‘Saathiya title track’ from ‘Saathiya’ (2002)
Picturised on Rani Mukerji and Vivek Oberoi this soothing number continues to remain one of Nigam’s best songs. A. R. Rahman gave the music which has its own charm while Gulzar wrote the beautiful lyrics. Nigam added his magical vocals creating a song that has a certain innocence that can’t be found in today’s music.
Nigam deserves a round of applause for the way he sung this song. Throughout the song he sings softly but when the chorus hits, there’s a boom of energy in his voice which really stands out to the listener.
‘Chori Chori’ from ‘Om Jai Jagadish’ (2002)
A love song that expresses two people’s feelings for one another. This romantic duet was sung by Alka Yagnik and Nigam who no doubt sung this song beautifully. Sameer penned the lyrics and Anu Malik gave the music. Sadly it’s a song that doesn’t seem to have got the recognition it should have, it’s a very underrated song. However those who have heard it can’t get enough of this romantic number.
The song featured Abhishek Bachchan and Tara Sharma with the song being filmed in various outdoor locations such as the beach and the dessert.
‘Na Milo Humse Zyada Kahin Pyar Ho Na Jaye’ from ‘Badal’ (2000)
An extremely popular song that was played a lot on the radio when it first released. Bobby Deol and Rani Mukerji were the lucky two to have this melodious song picturised on them and they did not disappoint.
Once again both the talents of Sameer and Anu Malik were used to create this loveable number. However this time Nigam was singing with Kavita Krishnamurthy who was the perfect choice for this song. Together their vocals were mesmerising.

‘Suraj Hua Maddham’ from ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ (2001)
Nigam and Alka Yagnik were united in this Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol number. Filmed amongst the historic pyramids this song was a delight for all the Khan and Kajol fans. The poetic lyrics by Anil Pandey came alive with the vocals of both Nigam and Yagnik. Not forgetting the hypnotising melody by Sandhesh Shandilya that has a blend of both traditional and western sounds.
As a whole this song had everything required to make it a hit song. From the mind blowing chemistry of the actors, to the enchanting music and of course last but not least the harmonious vocals of the singers.
‘Ishq Hua’ from ‘Aaja Nachle’ (2007)
The film gained a lot of excitement at the time as Madhuri Dixit Nene was making a comeback to films. The film had a big star cast with the likes of Akshay Khanna, Konkona Sen, Kunal Kapoor and many more talented actors.
This song was one that was loved by many as it had both Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal collaborating together. Many really enjoyed hearing them sing together. The music was given by Salim-Sulaiman and the lyrics were written by Jaideep Sahni and Piyush Mishra. The song perfectly described the feelings of the characters who were in love but kept their feelings a secret.
The team at BizAsiaLive.com wishes Sonu Nigam a very happy birthday.
