Ayushmann Khurrana on genre-hopping: “I hope to continue taking risks”
Ayushmann Khurrana is gearing up for two back-to-back releases that highlight the actor’s continued commitment to versatility and genre experimentation.
The actor will next be seen in ‘Udta Teer’, a patriotic comedy co-starring Sara Ali Khan, followed by ‘Yeh Prem Mol Liya’, a musical family drama directed by Sooraj Barjatya and featuring Sharvari.
The two projects represent contrasting cinematic worlds and showcase Khurrana’s ability to move seamlessly between genres, a quality that has defined his filmography since his debut.
Directed by Aakash Kaushik and backed by Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment, ‘Udta Teer’ is set in a world of espionage, confusion and comic mayhem. The film places Khurrana at the centre of an unpredictable narrative that blends patriotic themes with humour.
In contrast, ‘Yeh Prem Mol Liya’ marks Khurrana’s collaboration with veteran filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya. Featuring Sharvari opposite him and music by Himesh Reshammiya, the film promises a blend of romance, family values and emotional storytelling, elements that have become synonymous with Barjatya’s cinema.
Reflecting on his approach to filmmaking and his desire to constantly evolve as a performer, Khurrana said, “From my very first film, I have wanted to surprise audiences and, more importantly, surprise myself as an actor. I’ve never believed in being confined to one image or genre, whether it is a social comedy, an unconventional love story, an intense drama, or a musical family saga, every film gives me an opportunity to explore a new emotion and reveal a different side of myself.”
