After ‘King’, Shah Rukh Khan eyes big budget romantic film?

After the release of ‘King’, Shah Rukh Khan is reportedly considering a return to the romantic genre with a large‑scale, emotionally driven film. While Farah Khan remains one of the leading contenders to direct his next project, a double‑role entertainer tentatively titled ‘Main Hoon Na 2’, a new offer has emerged that may influence the direction of his upcoming slate.

According to sources at PinkVilla, the newly proposed film is a mature romantic drama, designed to present Khan in an age‑appropriate narrative that explores deeper emotional terrain. The story is said to position him once again as the emblematic face of on‑screen romance, though in a more layered and reflective setting than his earlier work. A source described the project as “an age‑appropriate narrative set in a more mature world of love, layered with emotional depth and drama,” adding that it is not a reworking of any of his previous roles.

Khan is believed to be equally enthusiastic about both the Farah Khan directorial and the newly offered romantic saga. A final decision is expected by June, once he has reviewed the completed scripts and assessed their development. In the meantime, he continues to meet with several leading filmmakers as he considers the next phase of his career.

The actor is also said to be mindful of recent medical advice following minor injuries sustained over the past few years. After delivering consecutive action‑heavy films, he is reportedly keen to step back from physically demanding roles. The romantic drama, therefore, is seen as arriving at an opportune moment. Current plans indicate that Khan intends to begin shooting his next project after the release of ‘King’, with filming likely to commence in January or February 2027.
