Ranveer Singh’s ‘Pralay’ brings in ‘28 Days Later’ prosthetics team for next‑level zombie realism

Ranveer Singh’s ‘Pralay’ has taken a major leap in ambition, with the makers bringing in members of the prosthetics team behind Danny Boyle’s cult classic ‘28 Days Later’ to design the film’s zombie effects.

The collaboration has been confirmed through production‑side sources, who say the team wants the infected characters to look “terrifying, textured and convincingly real”, relying heavily on practical prosthetics rather than CGI.

The names currently associated with the project include Lisa Crawley, Adrian Getley, Barrie Gower and Kate Hill, all of whom have worked on ‘28 Days Later’ and other high‑end genre productions. Their involvement signals a clear intention to elevate ‘Pralay’ beyond standard Bollywood creature design and into a more international, tactile aesthetic. One insider described the brief as aiming for “a visceral, lived‑in infection look rather than glossy VFX zombies”.

Director Jai Mehta is said to be pushing for a grounded, physical style of horror, with extensive prosthetic layering, blood‑flow simulation and movement‑based detailing. The team has reportedly begun early tests to determine how the infected will appear under different lighting conditions and action choreography. According to a source, “The idea is to make the zombies feel fast, unpredictable and frightening in close‑quarters combat. That’s why the makers wanted artists who have already mastered that language.”

The film’s first schedule is planned in Australia, which will double for a ravaged, post‑apocalyptic Mumbai. Production designers are working on large‑scale sets and abandoned‑city textures to complement the prosthetic work and create a cohesive visual world.
