Rani Mukerji: “Great to have scored a hat-trick of hits with Mardaani franchise!”

Yash Raj Films’ ‘Mardaani 3’ has pushed the acclaimed franchise to new heights, emerging as a solid box‑office hit and now becoming the highest‑grossing film in the series. With no major competition until the release of ‘Dhurandhar 2’, the film continues to draw audiences and strengthen its theatrical run. It has collected ₹47.55 crore nett in India and achieved a worldwide gross of ₹71.70 crore, signalling how strongly its hard‑hitting message has resonated with viewers.

The franchise’s performance over the years highlights its steady rise. In India, ‘Mardaani 3’ has already surpassed ‘Mardaani 2’ (₹47.51 crore) and the original ‘Mardaani’ (₹35.85 crore). Globally, the upward trajectory is even clearer: the first film earned ₹57 crore worldwide, the second reached ₹64 crore, and the latest instalment has now climbed to ₹71.70 crore.

Rani Mukerji, who has fronted the franchise for 12 years, expressed deep gratitude for the audience’s support. She said, “I have always believed that ‘Mardaani’ is not just a film, it is a voice, a voice for every woman who refuses to be silenced. The love and success of ‘Mardaani 3’ feels deeply personal because it tells me that audiences are not just watching someone like Shivani Shivaji Roy’s journey; they are standing with her for justice, for the victory of good over evil.” She added that while the hat‑trick of hits is gratifying, the true purpose of the franchise is to spark conversations about urgent social issues and confront crimes that society often overlooks.

Reflecting on the franchise’s impact, Rani said, “Even if one girl is affected, targeted, and attacked, it is the failure of our society that we haven’t been able to protect her. Hopefully the conversation that the ‘Mardaani’ franchise has created for so many years has resulted in us being more aware, more careful, and attentive.” She emphasised that the films endure because they address uncomfortable truths and champion the idea that fear must never prevail.

‘Mardaani’ has now become a proven theatrical property in a genre traditionally dominated by male stars, and Rani Mukerji has delivered yet another solo box‑office success in her 30th year as a leading lady — a rare milestone in Indian cinema. With ‘Mardaani 3’, the franchise cements its status as India’s only successful female‑led action series and the only hit female‑cop franchise in the country’s history.

Directed by Abhiraj Minawala and produced by Aditya Chopra, ‘Mardaani 3’ continues the series’ legacy of socially relevant, uncompromising storytelling.
