Rajkummar Rao addresses backlash over ‘Dada’ poster

Rajkummar Rao has addressed the backlash surrounding the first-look poster of ‘Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story’, admitting that the makers have learnt from the criticism.

Speaking to Mashable India, Rao acknowledged the reaction to the poster, which recreated Sourav Ganguly’s iconic shirt-waving celebration at Lord’s following India’s 2002 NatWest Trophy victory.

The poster faced criticism online, with some users questioning its visual effects and suggesting it appeared AI-generated.

Rao said the team should not have rushed the promotional material and had taken the feedback on board. He also highlighted Ganguly’s large fan following and said the response demonstrated the level of interest surrounding the project.

Rao has spent considerable time with Ganguly during the making of the film, with parts of the biopic filmed at the former India captain’s home and Eden Gardens.

Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg, ‘Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story’ is scheduled for theatrical release on 14th May 2027.
