IFFI 2025 cancels ‘Sholay’ screening, plans tribute to Dharmendra
Officials at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) have confirmed that the scheduled screening of ‘Sholay’ has been cancelled following the death of veteran actor Dharmendra.
Instead, the festival will honour the legendary star with a special tribute during its closing ceremony later this week. In addition, a dedicated session titled ‘50 Years of Sholay’ will be hosted with director Ramesh Sippy, reflecting on the enduring legacy of the landmark film.
Prakash Magdum, Managing Director of the NFDC, said, “We received the unfortunate news of Dharam ji’s passing away on Monday. A minute’s silence was observed at the closing ceremony of the Film Bazaar as a mark of respect. We will also be paying homage to the beloved legend during the festival’s closing ceremony.”
