First look of Ranbir Kapoor as Rama in Namit Malhotra’s ‘Ramayana’ unveiled
The team behind the forthcoming two‑part film franchise ‘Ramayana’ has released a new teaser introducing the character of Rama, portrayed by Ranbir Kapoor. The project, led by producer and filmmaker Namit Malhotra, is positioned as a large‑scale screen adaptation of the epic.
The teaser provides the first look at Kapoor in the role and was released simultaneously across multiple regions. It is intended to offer a fresh interpretation for those familiar with the story, while also presenting the narrative to new audiences encountering it in this format.
A central focus of the adaptation is Rama’s portrayal as a figure defined by restraint, moral clarity and adherence to duty. Revered as Maryada Purushottama, he is depicted as someone who consistently chooses principle over personal gain, even when faced with loss or injustice.
Director Nitesh Tiwari said, “Ramayana’s greatness lies in its emotional richness. At its heart, it is not just about good and evil, but about choices, consequences, and the weight of doing what is right. Rama’s journey is deeply human and that is what we have tried to stay true to.”

Reflecting on the role, Ranbir Kapoor commented, “I don’t think I’m here to represent Rama. I’m here to learn from him. There is a simplicity and purity to him that is very rare; and trying to understand and imbibe that has been a deeply humbling experience.”
Producer Namit Malhotra added, “The power of Rama’s story is not in what he conquers, but in what he lets go of. He represents a standard that is not easy, not convenient; but necessary. He chooses duty over desire, truth over comfort, and sacrifice over self. That is why his story has endured for thousands of years, and why it continues to matter today.”
