BBC Asian Network confirm Amber Sandhu for Saturday afternoon show

Amber Sandhu has been confirmed as the new host for BBC Asian Network’s Saturday afternoon show.

The Midlands-born sports fanatic will host the Saturday afternoon (3pm – 6pm) taking over from AJD.

Sandhu entered the industry through the BBC early careers scheme and has since worked across BBC Sport, Midlands Today and BBC Radio WM.

Having previously interned for Asian Network back in 2019, Sandhu has since stepped in to cover various Saturday weekend shows since December and has proved herself to be a big hit with the listeners, helping her to secure a more permanent role on the network.

Speaking about her new role, Amber Sandhu, said: “Well this all feels very surreal, exciting and mad all at the same time! I only told my Mum yesterday because I couldn’t actually believe it.

“Can’t wait to bring the new energy, some (average) bants, big tunes and all the fun Saturday vibes – giving the people what they want and having a laugh along the way. And hey, I reckon Amber in the afternoon has a kinda ring to it you know!”

Ahmed Hussain, Head of Asian Network, says: “I am really excited to welcome Amber back to Asian Network. It’s been truly inspiring to see her progress through her career in radio over the years and I am confident her new role will bring a new fresh vibe to Saturday afternoons which we are very excited to have.”

Sandhu’s first show for Asian Network will air live from Birmingham on Saturday 27th May. day afternoon 1-3PM slot, Islah’s last show will be on June 3rd. A new co-host with Mehreen Baig will be announced soon.
