Special Feature: 5 shows surprisingly not doing well in UK

With lifestyle habits changing and the way we consume entertainment on television different to recent years, a number of big shows are not faring as well as they should. BizAsiaLive.com looks at five big shows that are not performing as they should in the UK.

Show: Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke
Channel: Star Plus
Time slot: Weekdays at 22:00
Launched with much fanfare earlier this year, ‘Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke’, the sister show of ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’, boasts of an ensemble cast. However, despite this, ‘Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke’ continues to perform poorly for Star Plus in UK ratings. The show started off with a promising 30,000 viewers and has not seen much movement since then. It now regularly attracts just under 15,000 viewers – half of what it launched with. The late slot and poor promotions could be blamed for its poor run.

Show: Kumkum Bhagya
Channel: ZEE TV
Time slot: Weekdays at 21:30
India’s No.1 Hindi show ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ has failed to live up to the hype in UK ratings. The show’s time slot has been shifted around three times hoping to generate some interest. However, the plan doesn’t seem to have worked. Its sister show ‘Kundali Bhagya’ is doing marginally better but nowhere near to the extent it should be. ‘Kumkum Bhagya’ attracts an average audience of under 7,000 – very disappointing for its time slot.

Show: Tujhse Hai Raabta
Channel: ZEE TV
Time slot: Weekdays at 20:00
The show has been doing exceptionally well for ZEE TV in India but its fate in the UK is rather bleak. ‘Tujhse Hai Raabta’ sits bang in the middle of ZEE TV’s prime time schedule, which has not helped it in bringing in numbers. The show’s regular audience hovers around the 5,000 mark.

Show: Ishaaron Ishaaron Mein
Channel: Sony TV
Time slot: Weekdays at 20:30
Launched quite recently, ‘Ishaaron Ishaaron Mein’ is a specialist show, with a deeper message than some of its rivals. The show was expected to do better than what it is currently but sits behind most of the channel’s other primetime offerings. Whether the show picks up in UK ratings, remains to be seen.

Show: Bepanah Pyarr
Channel: Colors
Time slot: Weekdays at 21:30
The romantic thriller was touted as a huge launch for Colors but for some reason or another, ‘Bepanah Pyarr’ has remained on the lower end of the spectrum. It has potential to pick up in ratings, however it does face stiff competition from rival channels in the same time slot including ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ on Star Plus and ‘Ladies Special’ on Sony TV.
