Sony LIV acquires OTT rights for Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’

After drawing audiences to cinemas with its heartfelt narrative, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ is preparing for its next phase with an upcoming digital release. Nearly a year after its theatrical debut in June 2025, the feel-good sports comedy-drama led by Aamir Khan will begin streaming on SonyLIV, bringing its uplifting story to viewers at home.

The release represents a notable moment for the platform, as ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ becomes the first Hindi theatrical film to premiere on SonyLIV. The addition strengthens the service’s growing catalogue and introduces one of the year’s well-received crowd-pleasers to the streaming audience.

The film centres on Gulshan Arora, a basketball coach whose life changes course following a drink-driving incident that results in a sentence of community service. As part of the penalty, he is tasked with training a team of neurodivergent players preparing for a basketball tournament. What begins as an obligation soon evolves into a transformative experience. Through his interactions with the team, Gulshan gradually comes to recognise their resilience, optimism and distinctive perspective on life, ultimately discovering that they become his most important teachers.

Directed by R. S. Prasanna, the film features a cast that includes Genelia Deshmukh, Ashish Pendse, Aroush Datta, Aayush Bhansali, Rishi Shahani, Gopikrishnan K Varma, Rishabh Jain, Vedant Sharma, Simran Mangeshkar, Samvit Desai and Naman Misra.

The production is led by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, with B. Shrinivas Rao and Ravi Bhagchandka serving as producers. The screenplay is written by Divy Nidhi Sharma.

Blending humour with emotional depth, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ presents a story centred on resilience, friendship and the everyday moments that shape human connection. Its forthcoming streaming release offers a new opportunity for audiences to engage with the film’s message of empathy and perspective.
