Sohail Khan locks comeback rom‑com with Aayush Sharma and Sanjay Dutt

Sohail Khan is set to return to directing after a decade, with a romantic comedy that will feature Aayush Sharma and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. The project marks Khan’s first directorial outing since ‘Freaky Ali’ in 2016, signalling a revival of his filmmaking career after several stalled ventures.

The film, described as a Punjabi wedding‑set rom‑com, is currently in the final stages of scripting. Production is expected to begin later in 2026, with casting for the female lead still underway. Earlier reports had circulated under the working title ‘My Punjabi Nikaah’, though the final title has not yet been confirmed.

Khan had previously announced the large‑scale VFX project ‘Sher Khan’, which failed to materialise due to budget constraints. His new film represents a shift towards character‑driven comedy, with industry sources describing it as “chaos, comedy and a big fat wedding”.

For Aayush Sharma, the film offers a mainstream ensemble opportunity following his roles in ‘Loveyatri’ and ‘Antim’. Sanjay Dutt, meanwhile, adds the project to a busy slate that includes ‘Housefull 5’ and ‘The Good Maharaja’, both scheduled for release in 2026.
