Sky in talks to acquire ITV’s television business

ITV has confirmed it is in advanced discussions to sell its media and entertainment division to Sky in a deal reportedly worth £1.6 billion. The proposed sale would encompass ITV’s television channels and its streaming platform ITVX, but notably excludes ITV Studios, the production arm behind hit shows such as ‘Love Island’ and ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here’.

Sky, which is owned by US media giant Comcast, acquired Rupert Murdoch’s Sky in 2018 and also owns Universal Studios, making it a significant force in the global entertainment industry.

The move comes amid mounting pressure on traditional broadcasters, with ITV revealing earlier this week that its advertising revenue is expected to fall by 9% in the final quarter of 2025. The television landscape continues to be reshaped by fierce competition from streaming platforms such as Netflix and Disney+, prompting legacy networks to reassess their strategies.
