Remembering Sridevi: Five films she refused to work in

The Pan-Indian veteran, Sridevi was finally laid to rest, four days after her demise in Dubai.

The funeral attracted millions of people paying their respects during a procession in Mumbai.

BizAsiaLive.com remembers the Bollywood superstar with this special report. While she was on top of her game in the 80s and early 90s, fans may not be aware that she had refused five huge films:

Beta (1992)
The film was offered to Sridevi to play the lead role of Saraswati. She rejected the film as she had already done a number of films with co-star Anil Kapoor previously. The film was then taken up by Madhuri Dixit, which turned out to be a huge box office hit.

Baazigar (1993)
The Shah Rukh Khan thriller, was initially set to see Sridevi in a double role in the film. However, the filmmaker, Abbas Mustan realised he couldn’t kill off Sridevi on-screen, so he offered the film to Kajol and Shilpa Shetty instead. Subsequently, the director duo apologised to Sridevi for offering a film, in which she would be seen dead in.

Darr (1993)
This thriller starring Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan was a huge box office hit. However, Sridevi turned down the role of Kiran as she had done similar roles prior to this. Yash Chopra then approached Juhi Chawla for the role.

Aaina (1993)
Sridevi rejected this movie, which could have seen her paired up with Jackie Shroff and Amrita Singh. She wasn’t keen on doing a typical commercial film, as her previous outing with Yash Raj Films’ ‘Lamhe’ had created a benchmark for her. The role was later offered to Juhi Chawla.

Dil To Pagal Hai (1997)
Sridevi refused to star in the love triangle film, which had Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor in it. Apparently, Sridevi wasn’t keen on another love triangle movie. Her role went on to Dixit, who later won an award for her performance.
